Police: Distracted driver hit, killed pedestrian | Legal Shield | Pre ...

A Brunswick man, Giles
Curtis Dismuke, 47, was arrested on June 25 and is facing several
charges after police say he hit and killed a pedestrian while using his
cellphone.

Brunswick officials have disclosed that on January 30, Dismuke was
making a left turn onto Ellis Street from Gloucester Street when he hit
pedestrian Pauline Jones as she was crossing the street.

Jones, 81, was transported by helicopter to Memorial Medical
University Center, where she died from her injuries. Dismuke is charged
with homicide by vehicle, reckless driving, and distracted driving.

A controlled study conducted by the Editorial staff at Car &
Driver Magazine, revealed that the typical driver spends approximately
4.6 seconds with their eyes off of the road when retrieving an incoming
text message.
