River Front Blues Fest Kicks Off in Fort Smith | 5NEWSOnline.com ...

The River Front Blues Fest kicked off Friday night in downtown Fort Smith.

Artists from across the country played at Harry E. Kelley Park for the annual event. ?I just came out because I?m a blues man. I live the blues and play the harmonica. I love the blues,? said Randy Bulla, a blues fan.

About 10 different artists will perform at the two day event. ?The main reason we came tonight is to see Carolyn Wonderland. She?s fantastic,? said Kenny Coddington, a blues fan.

Organizers say some of the money from this year?s event will fund music scholarships for college students. ?We want to get kids involved in music and we want to encourage people to stay involved in music,? said Dori Colson, president of the Fort Smith River Front Blues Society.

Members of the audience kick back and enjoy music, food, and the river. ?I like the feel and the groove of it you know. It?s just kind of laid back and relaxing really,? said Coddington.

?It?s good every night. The bands are great every night,? said Bulla.

Tickets to get in are $10 per person. Children 12 and under are free.

The blues festival runs through Saturday night. The gates open Saturday at 4 p.m. The bands start playing at 5 p.m.
